Fire Suppression
Fire avoidance and suppression in solid handling systems
When generating power with coal, natural gas, oil or renewable energy, you can use carbon dioxide and nitrogen separately or together to create a unique fire avoidance and fire suppression process in solids storage or solids handling equipment, in processes using biomass, wood pellets and coal. Air Products engineers can create computational fluid dynamic (CFD) models to simulate your system and help determine how much gas is necessary to keep your atmosphere below the flammability limit, and to see how quickly a fire could be extinguished. We can install nozzles, sensors and controls so you can monitor the temperature, flame and oxygen concentration in your system. If a fire is detected, you can extinguish it rapidly through the introduction of the inert gas.
